South African betting sites with a provincial licence
South African betting sites with a provincial licence print a board name and a number in the footer, and the National Gambling Board repeats both on its verified operators list, last updated on 19 October 2026. Each board writes its numbers in its own format.

Mpumalanga numbers run in sequence, so a new entrant is easy to spot: Virgin Bet's 9-2-1-09938 is the highest on the list.
A dispute with a Curaçao site goes to the operator first and to the Curaçao regulator after that; no provincial board can order that payout.
International betting sites in South Africa, one by one
International sportsbooks open to South Africans run on Curaçao or Anjouan licences, and most keep the balance in rand; none holds a line on the NGB register. Each block prints the licence, the welcome, what it costs to release and the punter it fits.

1win
International| Licence | No provincial entry; international site |
|---|---|
| Welcome | Up to 500% over 4 deposits |
| Balance | Dollars or euros |
| Phone | Android APK, mobile site |
1win is the pick for a punter whose slip mixes a CS2 or Dota 2 map with a Saturday soccer multi. The Esports tab sits beside Upcoming and Live, and the filters narrow a long list to one league or one kick-off window.
The welcome pays 100%, 120%, 130% and 150% on the first four deposits, with free spins attached. Those funds clear in the casino's Bonus Wagering games, so a sports-only punter sees little of it.
Plus
- Esports priced beside soccer and cricket
- League and kick-off filters on the fixture list
- Form, head-to-head and standings on each match
Minus
- No entry on any provincial board register
- Bonus clears in casino games
- No rand balance
22Bet
International| Licence | No provincial entry; international site |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 100% first deposit match |
| Balance | Rand |
| Phone | Android APK, iPhone shortcut |
22Bet keeps one balance and one bet history across the desktop site, the mobile site and its Android APK, so a slip built on a laptop settles on a phone. Singles, accumulators and system bets share the same slip.
The Deposit screen prints the minimum for the chosen method before any money moves, and verification asks for an ID, a proof of address no older than three months and proof of the payment method.
Plus
- Single balance on desktop, mobile site and APK
- System bets beside singles and multis
- Deposit minimum shown per method before paying
Minus
- Outside provincial regulation
- Address proof must be dated inside 3 months
- iPhone access is a browser shortcut
BetWinner
Curaçao Gaming Authority licence| Licence | Curaçao Gaming Authority |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 100% up to €100, paid in rand |
| Minimum deposit | €1 (R18.69) |
| Payments | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Bitcoin |
BetWinner opens rand accounts and prices its first-deposit match against a euro cap, which stood at R1,869.25 on 5 October 2026. Clearing takes 5x in three-leg accumulators at 1.40 or longer, inside 30 days.
The registration form asks you to choose a sports or a casino welcome, and that choice stands for the account. Every fixture spreads its markets across five tabs, and the Withdraw funds screen prints a minimum and a maximum beside each method.
Plus
- Bonus credited in rand from a €1 deposit
- Bitcoin, Skrill and Neteller beside cards
- Per-method withdrawal limits shown in the cashier
Minus
- Cap moves with the euro rate
- No provincial licence
- Android install runs through an APK

888starz
Curaçao Gaming Authority licence| Licence | Curaçao OGL/2024/665/0201 |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 100% up to US$100 in rand, then 3 smaller matches |
| Rollover | 5x on 3-leg accas at 1.40, 7 days |
| Phone | Android APK, mobile site |
888starz splits its welcome into a sports package and a casino package, chosen at registration. The sports side pays 100% up to US$100 on the first deposit and 50%, 25% and 25% on the next three, each part cleared 5x at 1.40 within 7 days.
Seven days is the shortest clearing window in the ranking, which suits someone who bets most evenings. The Android app carries live scores and the bet history, and Multi-LIVE puts several in-play matches on one screen.
Plus
- Sports and casino welcomes kept apart
- Live scores and bet history inside the app
- Multi-LIVE screen for several matches
Minus
- Only 7 days to clear each part
- Dollar cap, not a rand figure
- iPhone runs it in the browser
Melbet
Curaçao Gaming Authority licence| Licence | Curaçao OGL/2024/561/0554, Pelican Entertainment B.V. |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 200% up to R3,400 |
| Rollover | 8x on 3-leg accas at 2.10, 30 days |
Melbet pays the biggest rand match in the ranking, from the smallest deposit, and asks the most to release it: 8x in three-leg accumulators at 2.10 or longer, within 30 days. R500 in brings R1,000 in bonus and needs R8,000 in qualifying stakes.
Player markets are the reason to stay: goalscorer and player performance on soccer, leading run-scorer on cricket, on the same screen as the match winner. The Android app refreshes scores and odds; iPhone users add the site to the home screen.
Plus
- Biggest rand cap of the group
- Smallest first deposit of the rand offers
- Player markets on soccer and cricket
Minus
- 8x rollover at odds of 2.10
- Curaçao licence only
- No App Store app
Paripesa
International| Licence | No provincial entry; international site |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 100% up to R2,000 |
| Rollover | 5x on 3-leg accas at 1.40, 30 days |
Paripesa has one of the simplest sums on the page: a first deposit doubled, cleared 5x on three-leg multis at odds of 1.40 or longer, with 30 days to do it. R300 becomes R600 and asks for R1,500 in qualifying stakes.
Live betting is where it earns the place. In-play markets carry live statistics beside them, Multi-LIVE follows several games at once, and the Results and Statistics sections cover settled matches.
Plus
- Clears at 5x and odds of 1.40
- Live statistics next to in-play prices
- Multi-LIVE across several matches
Minus
- Smaller cap than Melbet or 1xBet
- Outside the provincial licence system
- APK install on Android
1xBet
Curaçao Gaming Authority licence| Licence | Curaçao OGL/2024/1262/0493, Caecus N.V. |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 200% up to R3,000 |
| Rollover | Half on 3-leg accas at 1.40, half in 1xGames, 30 days |
| Phone | Android APK, mobile site |
1xBet doubles a first deposit twice over and splits the clearing: half the bonus on three-leg accumulators at 1.40, the other half in 1xGames, inside 30 days. A sports-only punter leaves half the bonus behind.
Depth is the selling point. Corners and cards markets run on the big European leagues, PSL and Springbok fixtures sit beside them, and the Android app pushes goal alerts with two-factor login.
Plus
- Second-biggest rand cap of the group
- Corners and cards markets
- Goal alerts and two-factor login in the app
Minus
- Half the bonus clears only in 1xGames
- Curaçao licence, no provincial entry
- iPhone users stay in the browser

BC.Game
Crypto · Anjouan| Licence | Anjouan ALSI-202410011-FI1, Twocent Technology Limited |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 180%, 340%, 300% and 360% on 4 deposits |
| Coins | Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT |
| Phone | Mobile site |
BC.Game is built for a punter who already holds crypto: Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT fund one wallet for the sportsbook and the casino, with a coin address and network shown for each deposit.
Football markets cover match results, goals, cards and corners, tennis adds set scores and total games. Winnings stay in crypto, so their rand value moves until you sell.
Plus
- One crypto wallet for sports and casino
- Cards and corners on football
- Four deposit bonuses
Minus
- Anjouan licence, no provincial entry
- Balance moves with coin prices
- Browser only on phones
Gamdom
Crypto · Anjouan| Licence | Anjouan ALSI-152406043-FI4, Moon Revolution Limitada |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 15% boosted instant rakeback for 7 days |
| Coins | BTC, ETH, USDT (3 networks), LTC, TRX |
| Phone | Mobile site |
Gamdom replaces the deposit match with rakeback: switch it on under Special Rewards within 6 hours of registering, and 15% of the house edge on your bets flows back for 7 days. No bonus balance waits to be cleared.
Payouts return in the coin you deposited, with the network fee taken off. The slip takes singles, accumulators and system bets, with Bet Boost prices on selected events and cash out on open bets.
Plus
- Rakeback instead of a rollover
- USDT on three networks
- Cash out and Bet Boost
Minus
- No deposit match
- Network fee on every payout
- No downloadable app
Cloudbet
Crypto · Curaçao Gaming Authority| Licence | Curaçao OGL/2024/328/0599, Halcyon Super Holdings B.V. |
|---|---|
| Welcome | Cash rewards over 30 days, no rollover |
| Coins | BTC, ETH, USDT, LTC, TRX, SOL, BNB |
| Payouts | Quoted within 24 hours |
Cloudbet has taken crypto bets since 2013 and pays its welcome as cash with no rollover: 10% casino rakeback, daily casino and weekly sports cash drops, and a Cash Vault on day 30.
Limits run high on the major markets, a VIP path adds custom limits, more than 35 sports are priced, and an identity check kicks in once deposits pass US$2,200.
Plus
- Cash rewards with no rollover
- High limits and a 24-hour payout window
- 35+ sports in BTC or USDT
Minus
- Curaçao licence, nothing provincial
- ID check from US$2,200 in deposits
- Crypto balances only
BetFury
Crypto · Curaçao Gaming Authority| Licence | Curaçao OGL/2024/1494/0942 |
|---|---|
| Welcome | Casino pack over 3 deposits + 225 free spins |
| Minimum sports stake | US$0.10 or €0.10 |
| Coins | 50+, most with no minimum deposit |
BetFury suits small stakes: sports bets start at US$0.10, most coins carry no minimum deposit, and the sportsbook runs from soccer and esports to horse racing and virtual games.
The headline welcome is a casino pack spread over three deposits from US$5, wagered within 14 days on slots, live games and BetFury Originals. Sports bets count 0% towards it, so a sports-only punter should leave it switched off.
Plus
- Sports stakes from US$0.10
- 50+ coins, card purchases in the wallet
- Horse racing and virtual sports priced
Minus
- Welcome pack is for casino play only
- Licensed in Curaçao only
- Stakes shown in USD or EUR
Betting sites in South Africa compared on match, cap and clearing cost
Betting sites in South Africa compared on the headline percentage alone put Melbet and 1xBet first, but the figure that costs you money is the qualifying stake. A 200% match at 8x and 2.10 demands far more in accumulators than a 100% match at 5x and 1.40, and the calculator in the sidebar draws that difference for any deposit.

If a rand balance and a bank card are how you bet, read the rand rows first. If you already hold Bitcoin or USDT, Cloudbet and Gamdom skip the rollover entirely, and BC.Game and BetFury pay out in the coin you deposited. 22Bet is the one rand sportsbook without a published cap, so read its offer page before you deposit.
Betting sites that accept 1Voucher, OTT voucher and Capitec Pay
1Voucher and OTT voucher deposits turn cash at a till into a betting balance, and the licensed bookmakers that publish both are SportyBet and Gbets. Each route names the bookmakers that list it, where the voucher or payment comes from and how the money comes back out.

1Voucher
- Where
- SportyBet, Gbets
- Buy it
- Tills at Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, Makro, spaza shops
- Redeem
- 16-digit PIN in the cashier
The cash-at-a-till route for a punter without a card; keep the slip until the balance shows.
OTT Voucher
- Where
- SportyBet, Gbets, BetOlimp, 10bet, Playabets
- Buy it
- Wherever airtime is sold; inside the Capitec, Nedbank and Discovery Bank apps
- Redeem
- 12-digit PIN, two taps
OTT Payout, the issuer's withdrawal product, names Gbets, 10bet and Playabets among its partners.
Capitec Pay and PayShap
- Where
- SportyBet
- How
- Approve the payment in the Capitec app or pay to the ShapID
- Speed
- Instant credit
The route for a Capitec account holder who wants no card details on a betting site.
Ozow and cards
- Where
- SportyBet, Gbets, BetOlimp, YesPlay (cards and EFT), BetWinner
- Ozow
- Instant EFT approved in your banking app
- Cards
- Visa and Mastercard
YesPlay pays out by EFT with two free withdrawals a week; SportyBet by EFT inside 24 working hours or to a bank eWallet.
Crypto
- Where
- BC.Game, Gamdom, Cloudbet, BetFury; Bitcoin at BetWinner
- Coins
- BTC, ETH, USDT and more
- Payout
- Back to the wallet address you give, network fee deducted
The balance moves with the coin price until you sell, so a win in USDT holds its rand value better than one in BTC.
An OTT voucher looks like an airtime voucher and works like a bank card online. Redeeming it takes two steps in the cashier: choose OTT Voucher, type the PIN and tap redeem. The international sites outside BetWinner show their methods inside the cashier after login, so the table marks them by balance type rather than by method.
Online betting sites South Africa: sign up, FICA and your first withdrawal
Online betting sites South Africa punters open in 2026 follow the same five steps from registration to the first payout, and the differences sit in the documents and the timing. The steps use the published rules of the bookmakers in the table.

- Register with a cellphone number or an email
SportyBet starts the form from a cellphone number, and licensed bookmakers tie the account to a South African ID under FICA before the first payout. International sites ask for a phone number or an email and set the currency here, so pick rand where it is offered.
- Pass FICA before the first withdrawal
Provincially licensed bookmakers verify identity and address before paying out; YesPlay takes the documents online. 22Bet wants an ID, a proof of address dated inside three months and proof of the payment method; Cloudbet asks for ID once deposits pass US$2,200.
- Deposit by voucher, Ozow, Capitec Pay or card
Buy a 1Voucher or OTT voucher for the amount you want to bet, or approve an Ozow or Capitec Pay payment in your banking app. Melbet and Paripesa unlock the welcome offer from a small first deposit; BetWinner from €1.
- Place a bet that counts towards the bonus
Qualifying bets are accumulators of three or more legs: at Melbet at least three legs at 2.10, at Paripesa, BetWinner and 888starz at 1.40. Singles count at none of the four.
- Withdraw once the balance is yours
SportyBet pays by EFT inside 24 working hours or to a bank eWallet; Cloudbet quotes 24 hours for crypto. Gbets holds withdrawals while a bonus is still active.
Do FICA on day one. A withdrawal from an unverified account waits for the documents at the licensed bookmakers, and at Gbets the free bet and free spins arrive only once the check is complete.
Best betting sites in South Africa by what you need
The best site for you depends on one or two needs, so each line names a need, the brand that meets it in the data, and the figure behind the choice. Where brands tie, all are named.

Two of these needs have their own pages. The guide to betting sites with welcome bonus in South Africa holds the sign-up gifts and the worked clearing sums; the holds the APK, App Store and home-screen routes brand by brand.
A punter who stakes R200 a weekend clears a R1,000 bonus at 5x in five weekends and at 8x in eight, so the Paripesa and BetWinner terms fit a smaller bankroll better than Melbet's.
Betting companies in South Africa with published cashiers and offers
Betting companies in South Africa that publish their cashier and offer terms in full are fewer than the licence list suggests. The profiles are the licensed bookmakers whose deposit methods, payout routes and offers could be read on their own sites; the rest of the register prints a licence line and little else.

Sports betting South Africa: soccer, rugby, cricket and horse racing
Sports betting South Africa punters do most often is soccer, and the tiles show where each sport is priced best among the bookmakers in the ranking.

Soccer
Betway Premiership on every sportsbook in the ranking beside the Premier League and the Champions League. 1xBet adds corners and cards; Melbet prices goalscorer markets.
Rugby
BetOlimp carries the United Rugby Championship; BetWinner and 1xBet price Springbok Tests.
Cricket
Melbet prices leading run-scorer bets for Proteas series; 22Bet, BetWinner and 888starz list the Tests and T20s.
Horse racing
World Sports Betting, Hollywoodbets and the Tote run racing on their own sites; among the international sites BetFury lists racing beside virtual sports.
Esports
CS2 and Dota 2 at 1win, BetWinner and the crypto sportsbooks; League of Legends at 1win.
Choose by the market you bet most: corners and cards at 1xBet, player markets at Melbet, racing at World Sports Betting or Hollywoodbets, esports at 1win.
Is online betting legal in South Africa?
Yes: online sports betting is legal in South Africa with a bookmaker licensed by one of the nine provincial gambling boards, and the National Gambling Board says so in its FAQ. The same FAQ says online casino games are illegal under section 11 of the National Gambling Act 7 of 2004, and the legal age is 18.

- National Gambling Act 7 of 2004
Interactive casino games are unlawful under section 11; sports betting is left to the nine provincial boards, which license bookmakers.
- NGB position on international sites
The National Gambling Board's FAQ says South Africans cannot gamble with international companies from within the Republic; the legal age is 18.
- Supreme Court of Appeal, Supabets case
Bookmakers in Gauteng may not offer fixed-odds bets on roulette, because roulette is a casino game under the Gauteng Act.
- Comment closes on the 20% online gambling tax
National Treasury proposed a further 20% national tax on online gross gambling revenue, on top of provincial rates of 6% to 9%.
- Final tax design promised
Treasury has said the final design of the levy will come with the 2027 Budget; any levy lands in the odds, not in your payout.
The Board's line on international companies covers every sportsbook in the blocks above, so the choice is between a bigger rand match and a local complaint route.
The 2025 Supreme Court ruling on casino games at bookmakers
On 21 October 2025 the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled in Portapa (Pty) Ltd t/a Supabets v Casino Association of South Africa. The National Gambling Board reads the judgment as national in reach; the South African Bookmakers' Association says it is limited to Gauteng roulette. Soccer, rugby and cricket bets with a licensed bookmaker were untouched by the ruling.
Tax on betting winnings in South Africa
A casual punter pays no income tax on winnings. SARS treats them as capital in nature, and TaxTim's guidance is to declare the amount in the non-taxable section of the annual return; someone who bets for a living is taxed as a business.
If a R20,000 multi lands, keep the bookmaker's statement for the tax year and declare it as non-taxable.
List of fake betting sites in South Africa: how to check a licence
A list of fake betting sites goes out of date the week it is published, so the National Gambling Board publishes the opposite: a list of verified operators, with advice to stay off anything missing from it. The licence checker in the sidebar searches those names, and the four checks take a minute.

- Find the licence line in the footer
A Western Cape licence reads like 10110547-021 at Hollywoodbets; a Mpumalanga licence reads like 9-2-1-09661 at 10bet. A footer that names a board without a number fails the first check.
- Match the number on the NGB list
Open the verified operators list, choose the province and search the trading name. The holder printed there, Raging River Trading for Betway, should match the company in the bookmaker's terms.
- Match the domain to the operator
Licensed bookmakers run one domain each: Betway on its .co.za address, YesPlay on its .bet address, SportyBet in the /za section of its site. A copy of a brand on a different domain, with a login form and a bonus code, is the usual shape of a fake.
- Treat the promise as the tell
Guaranteed wins, sure odds, fixed matches and paid tipster groups are scams whatever logo they carry. No licensed bookmaker sells any of them, and the result of a match is never for sale.
A site that passes the first two checks has a provincial board behind it; one that fails them is international, like the sportsbooks in the blocks, or no bookmaker at all.
New SA betting sites in 2026
New SA betting sites in 2026 start with Virgin Bet, which launched its local sportsbook this year under Mpumalanga licence 9-2-1-09938. Galaxybet (9-2-1-09854) and Lucky Fish (9-2-1-09838) carry Mpumalanga numbers close to it, YesPlay's Western Cape licence is dated 26 November 2025 and SportyBet's Mpumalanga licence followed on 28 August 2024.

A fresh licence changes little about the bet slip, so judge a new bookmaker by the same numbers as an old one: cap, wagering multiple, minimum odds and payment routes. Check the licence number on the NGB list first, because the newest sites are the ones most often copied by fakes.
Questions South African punters ask
Which are the top bookmakers for South Africans?
The ranked list covers the international sportsbooks that take rand and crypto, Melbet, Paripesa and 1xBet among them, and the provincial tables cover Betway, Hollywoodbets, YesPlay, SportyBet and the other licensees with their numbers.
Which app gives free bets?
SportyBet hands out free bets through missions in its app rather than one welcome match. Gbets credits a free bet and free spins once FICA is complete, and BetOlimp adds free bets for regular staking. The international apps pay deposit matches instead.
Are there any new betting sites?
Virgin Bet launched in South Africa in 2026 on Mpumalanga licence 9-2-1-09938, and YesPlay's Western Cape licence 10180204-013 is dated 26 November 2025. Both are on the NGB register of 19 October 2026.
What is the safest betting site for South Africans?
The safest position is a bookmaker whose licence number sits on the NGB register, because its provincial board hears complaints and can order a payout; Betway, Hollywoodbets, YesPlay and SportyBet print such a number.
Can I bet without FICA?
Licensed bookmakers verify your ID and address before the first withdrawal, so an unverified account can deposit and bet but cannot cash out. International sites check at their own thresholds, such as the three documents 22Bet asks for before the first payout.
Which betting sites accept 1Voucher?
SportyBet and Gbets both list 1Voucher in the cashier, alongside OTT vouchers, and SportyBet adds Capitec Pay.
Is 1win legit in South Africa?
1win is an international sportsbook and casino with no entry on any provincial board register, so your account runs on its own terms. It takes South African sign-ups and pays a four-part welcome that clears in casino games. The covers the app, login and withdrawal routes.
